Or Records Fifth Straight Double-Double in Loss to #25 Rochester

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team hosted 25th-ranked University of Rochester on Sunday, February 12 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest. The Tartans dropped the game by a 68-60 score and move to 11-11 on the season and 2-9 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets are now 15-7 and 5-6.

How it Happened

  • Rochester took an 8-0 lead forcing a Tartan timeout in the first two minutes of the game.
  • The Yellowjackets would go on to lead by 10 twice in the first period before sophomore Anisha Chintala converted a driving layup to make it 19-11 at the break.
  • Freshman Ava Black scored four of the Tartans' first six points of the second period and pulled the home squad to within six points with 4:21 to play in the half.
  • A 12-6 run by the Yellowjackets to finish the half gave the visitors a 12-point lead at 35-23.
  • Both teams shot in the low 30s for the half but the Yellowjackets visited the free throw line 11 times and converted seven while the Tartans were 1-of-1.
  • Rochester's Katie Titus, who had 14 points in the first half, scored 13 in the third quarter on 6-of-9 shooting to keep the spread in double digits and increase it by one despite the Tartans shooting 50.0% from the floor.
  • The Tartans trailed by 16 points after a layup by Titus with 2:17 to go but pulled to within eight following an 8-0 run that ended with 48 seconds to go.
  • Rochester was able to run out the clock and maintained the lead despite missing four free throws to close the game.

For the Tartans

  • Sophomore Catherine Or recorded her fifth straight double-double and eighth in UAA play with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Junior Megan Matsko finished with 12 points after scoring eight in the final period.
  • Or also led the team with four steals and three assists.
  • Freshman Savannah Gibbs finished with eight points and nine rebounds.

For the Yellowjackets

  • Titus led with 31 points and nine rebounds.
  • Callie McCulley collected 10 points and 13 rebounds with four assists.
  • Alexis Sestric finished with 15 points.
