Yu Earns Medalist Honors as Tartans Win Westminster Spring Invitational

(NEW CASTLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team competed at the Westminster College Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 14, bringing home the team title for the fourth straight year. Carnegie Mellon carded a team score of 320 on the par 72 course, matching the fifth best score in school history, at the 18-hole event held at the New Castle Country Club.

Freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) earned individual medalist honors with a career-best score of 74 to lead the Tartans who had the top four finishes on the day. The top honor for Yu is the first of her career and her second top-10 finish of the year. Finishing second behind Yu was sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho/Idaho Falls) with a 79.

Junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) entered the clubhouse with an 83 to finish third, as sophomore Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) recorded an 84 and took fourth place.

Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) carded a 91 to round out the top five players for the Tartans.

Freshman Shanice Lam (Hong Kong, China/International Christian School), sophomore Sanchi Gupta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), and senior Isabelle Tseng (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) entered the tournament as individuals and finished the 18-hole event with a 90, 92, and 94, respectively.

The Tartans will be back in action Sunday, April 15 at the Saint Vincent College Invitational at Champion Lakes Golf Course in Bolivar, Pennsylvania.
