Chen Crowned UAA Champion, Sets School Record
(PALM COAST, Fla.) – Freshman Grace Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team earned individual medalist honors as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships concluded on Sunday. The two-day event was held at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida. Chen finished the 36-hole championship with the lowest two-round score in program history, as she entered the clubhouse with a 147 (73-74).
The Tartans carded a team score of 633 (321-312) on the par-72 Conservatory Course to place third. New York University won the UAA title with a 631 followed by Washington University in St. Louis with a 632.
Sophomore Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and freshman Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) each ended play with a 161 after carding rounds of 81 and 80, respectively. Senior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) shot a 164 (86-78) and junior Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) carded a 170 (86-84).
Carnegie Mellon had two individuals enter the championships. Sophomore Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) finished with a 165 (84-81) while junior Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) shot a 169 (83-86).
The Tartans will be back in action on Friday, March 15, at the 54-hole Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate at the Indian Mounds Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
