Tartans Win Jekyll Island Collegiate; Set School Record

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team won the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate at the Indian Mounds Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia, on Sunday. The Tartans fired the low team score on Sunday of 303 to help secure the team victory with a 54-hole, three-round school record score of 912 (302-307-303). The three-day event is being played on the par-72, 5,801-yard Indian Mounds Golf Club on Jekyll Island with the field comprised of 21 Division III teams including eight ranked in the top 25 nationally.

The Cardinal and Gray broke the school record by 26 strokes which was previous set this past fall at the Golfweek Division III Invitational.

Junior Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho), sophomore Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and freshman Grace Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis) all tied for sixth-place individually in a field of 119 golfers with a 54-hole score of 229. Their score ranks as the second lowest individual 54-hole score in program history. Lui turned in rounds of 73, 77 and 79, Simpson posted scores of 75, 78 and 76, while Chen shot 78, 77 and 74.

Freshman Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) fired her lowest round of the event on Sunday when she entered the clubhouse with a two-over par 74 to finish with a 231 (81-76-74). Senior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) shot a 238 (76-77-85).

Carnegie Mellon had two individuals compete, as sophomore Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) placed fifth individually with a 228 (73-77-78) and junior Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) ended with a 242 (79-78-85).

The Tartans are now off until Sunday, April 14 when the begin play at the two-day at Birmingham-Southern Invitational.
