Tartans in Second After 18 Holes of BSC Southern Shootout

(BESSEMER, Ala.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team competed in the opening round of the Birmingham Southern College Southern Shootout on Monday and carded a 315. The Tartans are currently in second out of a field of 10 teams and sit one-stroke back of Oglethorpe University heading into play on Tuesday. The 36-hole event is being played at the Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer, Alabama, which is a par 72, 5,802-yard course.

Sophomore Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) entered the clubhouse on Monday afternoon with a four-over par 76 and is in fifth individually in a field of 61 golfers.

Freshmen Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) and Grace Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis) each carded rounds of 79 while senior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) shot an 81. Junior Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) ended play with an 83.

The Tartans had three individuals compete with freshman May Wang (Portland, Ore./Westview) leading the way with a 79. Sophomore Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) fired an 80 and junior Sanchi Gupta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) shot a 94.

The final round will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT on Tuesday with a shotgun start.
