Tartans Lead Field After Opening Round of Savannah Invitational

(POOLER, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team, ranked tops in Division III, opened play at the 36-hole Savannah Invitational on Monday hosted by Berry College. The two-day event is being played at the par 72, 5,800-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club where the Tartans carded a first round score of 313 and lead the 14-team field.

Sophomore Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) and freshman Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) both carded rounds of two-over par 74 and are currently tied for second individually in a field of 79 golfers.

Freshmen Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga. / Northview) entered the clubhouse with a 78 and is tied for sixth. Senior Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) and junior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) ended play Monday with rounds of 87 and 89, respectively.

Carnegie Mellon had two individuals compete, freshman Michelle Koo (Scottsdale, Ariz./BASIS Scottsdale Charter) fired a career-best round of 78 while sophomore Grace Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis) shot an 86.

The second day of play will continue on Tuesday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
