Rodgers Named Division III Women’s Golf Pride Grips National Coach of the Year

(CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.) – Dan Rodgers, head coach of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team, has been named the 2019-20 Golf Pride Grips Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) National Coach of the Year for Division III women's collegiate golf, as announced Friday by the organization.

In the sixth year of the women's golf program, Rodger's guided the Tartans to the top position in the final Division III national rankings by Golfstat this season. The number one ranking was the first for a women's team sport at Carnegie Mellon.

"Dan is one of the best coaches in the country, and this is well-deserved recognition for someone who has helped build two programs into national championship contenders," said Director of Athletics Josh Centor. "Dan is relentless in his pursuit of excellence, and does it all with unassailable ethics and character leading the way. We are so proud to have him at the helm of our golf program."

The Cardinal and Gray competed in four events (nine rounds) this season and ended the shortened season with a team scoring average of 308.78. The team won three of its four tournaments, including the Golfweek Fall Invitational where they broke both the 54-hole school scoring record (908) and the 18-hole team scoring record (296). Rodgers coached the University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year as well as three WGCA All-Americans, the first for the program.

In addition, the WGCA announced the 2019-20 Golf Pride Grips WGCA Regional Coaches of the Year. It marked Rodgers' first regional award on the women's side and third overall in his six years coaching at Carnegie Mellon, as he was named the men's Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year last year and in 2016-17.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
