Women’s Golf Receives Academic Accolades for 2020-21 Season

The 2020-21 Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team received academic recognition from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) when the association announced the top 25 teams with the highest team GPA for each division. The Tartans ranked fifth among NCAA Division III institutions. The 11-member Cardinal and Gray team finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.830.

Four Carnegie Mellon University athletes were honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as At-Large Academic All-District selections. Two golfers were selected to the men's team, senior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and junior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area), while junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) from tennis and sophomore Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) from golf were selected to the women's team. The honor is the first for each of the four.

Five members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team have been named to the 2020-21 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, as announced by the organization. Senior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School), junior Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman), sophomores Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) and Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) along with freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School). This marks the fourth straight year four or more have been recognized and the second straight season the Cardinal and Gray have had five members honored, tying the most in program history.

For the second straight season, three members of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s golf team earned All-America honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) with two others earning regional recognition along with head coach Dan Rodgers who was named the Division III Golf Pride Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year.

All five members of the of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s golf team that competed at the 2021 NCAA Championships and led the team to a national runner-up finish have been honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team finished the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday as the national runner-up. The Tartans carded a team score of 311 on the final day and had a 72-hole score of 1,236 (312-308-305-311). The championships were played on the par-72, 5,818-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan. It marked the second appearance at the championships for the Tartans, as the 2018 team finished fifth.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team carded a 305 in the third round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships Thursday and will head into the final round on Friday on top of the leaderboard with a 54-hole score of 925 (312-308-305). The Cardinal and Gray hold a four-shot lead over Methodist University and will vie for the school’s first national team championship in any sport on Friday. The championships are being played on the par-72, 5,818-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan.

The Tartans fired a team score of 308 on Wednesday across the par-72, 5,818-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan. The Cardinal and Gray currently have a 36-hole score of 620 (312-308) and lead the 25-team field by one-stroke over Methodist University.

The Cardinal and Gray currently lead the 25-team field after 18 holes and are six strokes ahead of second-place George Fox University.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. This marks the Tartans second appearance in program history after finishing fifth at the 2018 NCAA Championships. This year’s championships will be held May 11-14, at Forest Akers Golf Courses in Lansing, Michigan on the West Course. Olivet College and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority will be hosting the four-day event.

The invitational was being held at the par-72, 5,800-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida., with Centre College winning with a 936 (317-315-304).

The Tartans have a 36-hole score of 638 (322-316) and are in second in the eight-team event. The 54-hole invitational is being held at the par-72, 5,800-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2021 Golfweek DIII Spring Invitational held at the par-72, 5,800-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans carded a team score of 322 on Friday and were one of four teams of the eight-team filed to finish before play was halted because of darkness. Play will resume at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week following her play at the Jekyll Island Collegiate over the weekend.
