Tartans Place Second at Golfweek DIII Spring Invite

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team finished play at the 2021 Golfweek DIII Spring Invitational Sunday and placed second in the eight-team event after carding a 54-hole score of 954 (322-316-315). The invitational was being held at the par-72, 5,800-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida., with Centre College winning with a 936 (317-315-304).

Sophomore Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) carded her best round of the event on Sunday, as she entered the clubhouse with a four-over par 76. The sophomore ended with a 238 (84-78-76) and tied freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) for seventh individually in a field of 40 golfers. Pan carded an 80 in round three after recording back-to-back rounds of 79.

Senior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and sophomore Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) both ended the invitational with a 239 and tied for 10th. Simpson fired rounds of 79, 80 and 80 while Cao opened the first two rounds with back-to-back 80 before shooting a 79 in the final round. Freshman Meher Mankikar (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) shot her best round of the weekend Sunday afternoon which was an 81 and ended with a 253 (86-86-81).

The Tartans will close their regular season at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate on April 11-12.
