(EAST LANSING, Mich.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday. The Tartans fired a team score of 312 on the par-72, 5,818-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan. The Cardinal and Gray currently lead the 25-team field after 18 holes and are six strokes ahead of second-place George Fox University.
Sophomore Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) is second individually in a field of 131 golfers after carding a three-over par 75 to lead the Tartans. The sophomore sits one-stoke back heading into play on Wednesday.
Senior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) both entered the clubhouse with rounds of 78 and are tied for eighth on the leader board. Sophomore Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) fired an 81 while junior Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) ended play with an 82.
Second round play is set for Wednesday with the Tartans tee times are set to begin at 2:55 p.m. with Susanto the first out. Following 54 holes of competition, the field will be pared to 15 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete in the final day.
