Women’s Golf Currently in First at NCAA Preview; Tartans 'B' Team Takes Second at Allegheny Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Invitational

(HOUSTON, Texas) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Preview held at the par-72, 5,804-yard Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas on Monday. The Tartans lead the 16-team field after carding a 300.

Freshman Sriya Mupparaju (San Diego, Calif./Del Norte) carded a one over-under par 73 on Monday and is tied for fourth individually in a field of 90 golfers. Junior Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) ended the day with a three-over par 75 while senior Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) and sophomore Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) each carded a 76.

Freshman Kaylin Yeoh (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) sits a stroke back of Susanto and Pan after entering the clubhouse with a 77 to end play on Monday.

The Tartans entered a 'B' Team in the Allegheny Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Invitational in Meadville, Pennsylvania that finished on Monday. The two-day, 36-hole event was played at the par 72 Country Club of Meadville with the Cardinal and Gray placing second in the nine-team event with a 628 (320-308).

Freshman Reeya Vasishta (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View) and junior Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) led the Tartans in Meadville, as each carded a 155 and tied for second individually in a field of 49 golfers. Vasishta carded rounds of 79 and 76 while Yu recorded rounds of 85 and two-under par 70. Yu's round of 70 on Monday was a collegiate-best. Sophomore Tiana Porwanto (Jakarta Utara, Indonesia/Masa Depan Cerah Subrabaya Christian) tied for seventh with a 36-hole score of 160 (77-83).

Sophomores Steffi Chern (Hsinchu City, Taiwan/Pacific American School) and Meher Mankikar (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) finished with a 163 and 165, respectively. Chern fired rounds of 79 and 84 with Mankikar carding rounds of 85 and 79.

The second round of the NCAA Preview event will be played on Tuesday.
