No. 6 Tartans Remain Undefeated With 1-0 Win Over Capital

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team remains undefeated with a record of 6-0 as they outscored Capital University 1-0 in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday afternoon on a goal by freshman Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) in the 81st minute.

Despite going into the half tied 0-0, the Tartans outshot Capital 11-4 with seven of those shots on goal.  Iatarola kept the Capital goalkeeper moving as she had four shots in the first half, one of which just missed as it made contact with the crossbar.

The Tartans offensive front continued to put pressure on Capital at the net throughout the game. Senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) and freshman Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) both had two shots at the goal. Juniors Alli McGugan (Chicago, Ill./Marist), Carson Quiros (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy), and Amanda Broderick (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) each also added a shot to the tally.

Carnegie Mellon continued to be relentless on the offensive side at the start of the second half, which ended up paying off as just inside the 81st minute of the game, Iatatrola finally struck the ball from 18 feet out into the back right corner of the goal for the Tartans.  It was her first goal of the season.

"We are really proud of how the team played today," said assistant women's soccer coach Shannon Agnew.  "We were creating some nice opportunities in the final third and can see the hard work in training showing up during games."

The women's soccer team will hit the field again on Saturday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. against Grove City College in Grove City, Pa.
