Quiros's Goal Leads No. 5 Tartans Past Brandeis

(WALTHAM, Mass.) - The fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team topped Brandeis University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, October 17 by a 1-0 score improving its overall record to 10-1 and its UAA mark to 2-1. Junior Carson Quiros (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) put in the game winner in the 85th minute.

Quiros was on the receiving end of a corner kick by freshman Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) when she lept in the air and headed the ball past Brandeis keeper Michelle Savuto. The shot was Quiros's second on goal for the half and fourth shot of the game. Her marker also went down as her second of the season and second game winner.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) earned the shutout, her seventh of the season, by making four saves including punching a free kick from 30 yards out over the bar in the 81st minute.

Also registering shots on goal for the Tartans were Iatarola with two, freshman Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School), sophomore Samantha Smith (Seattle, Wash./International Community School) and senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff).

The Tartans will continue their weekend road trip with a match Sunday, October 19 at 23rd-ranked New York University at 1:30 p.m. New York has a 2-0-1 UAA record and tied ninth-ranked Emory Friday afternoon.
