Quiros Scores Two in Shutout Win Against Rochester

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Two first half goals by senior Carson Quiros (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) stood up as the Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team defeated the University of Rochester, 2-0, on Friday, October 16 at home. The fifth-ranked Tartans are now 12-0-1 on the year and 3-0-0 in the UAA while Rochester falls to 5-5-1 and 1-2-0.

Quiros opened the scoring in the eighth minute when she finished a free ball to the upper left corner. The Tartans earned a free kick which sophomore Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) took from the right sideline. Her service to the back post was headed by sophomore Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) but blocked by a defender. The rebound fell to Quiros inside the six-yard box and she fired it with her left foot to the corner for the score.

In the 37th, Quiros struck again when she prepped a clearance by the defense to her right foot just outside the 18-yard box. She struck a low shot to the near post for her third of the season.

Rochester had four shots in the second half that were saved by junior keeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle), the last of which she grabbed at the crossbar to preserve the shutout, her fifth of the season.

The Tartans will return to the field when they host Emory University on Sunday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m.
