No. 3 Tartans Drop Double-Overtime Contest at No. 6 Washington U.

(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team, ranked third in the nation, took its undefeated record to St. Louis, Missouri, to face sixth-ranked Washington University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action Friday, October 30. The Bears were able to get a goal past junior keeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) in the 105th minute to take the 1-0 victory. The win for Washington puts them at the top of the UAA with the Tartans with identical 4-1 league marks.

A team save by the Bears in the 13th minute kept the Tartans from taking a lead when senior Carson Quiros (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) had a header off a corner kick stopped at the goal line. In the last minute of the half, the same thing happened but in reverse as the Tartans stopped a header by Washington's Sam Ezratty to keep the score 0-0 at the break.

The Tartans put five shots on goal in the second half but all were denied by Lizzy Crist in goal for the Bears.

In the first overtime, Liston made a save in the last seconds on a shot by Katie Chandler. But it was Chandler who scored the game winner in the second overtime when she finished a shot to the far post after a through ball by Rachel Mickelson.

The goal was the first allowed by Liston since an own goal against La Roche College on October 6.

The Tartans will next face No. 18 University of Chicago on the road on Sunday, November 1 at 11:00 a.m. CT.
