Tartans Win Fourth Straight with Shutout

(BEREA, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team defeated Baldwin Wallace College, 2-0, on the road Tuesday, September 20 in non-conference action to move its record to 5-2. The host Yellow Jackets fell to 5-3-1 for the season.

It wasn't until the 37th minute that the Tartans found the back of the net, even after seven shots were fired off by the visitors. The goal came off a corner kick by freshman Sydney Webber (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) when freshman Camille Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/The Seven Hills School) finished a shot for her first career score.

Prior to the goal, the Tartans had two other corner kicks and forced Sophia Weidner to make one save for the Yellow Jackets.

Sophomore Sarah Mahler (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) made three saves in the first 18 minutes of the game and from that point the Tartans' defense thwarted off any opportunities for the home squad.

In the 73rd minute, freshman Vayda Farino (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) scored her first career goal to give the Tartans a 2-0 lead. Webber was credited with the assist on the play.

Junior defender Katie Strycharz (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) hit the post on two shot attempts and junior Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) had a shot saved by the defense in the final minute of the game.

Mahler earned her fourth win of the season and second shutout while Weidner made eight saves in net for the Yellow Jackets.

The Tartans will next face John Carroll University on the road Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. before returning home for a match against Allegheny College on Sunday, September 25.
