#10 Tartans Shut Out Westminster, 4-0

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team shut out Westminster College on the road Monday night, 4-0. The Tartans move to 6-1-1 for the year with their fifth shutout of the season.

The first two goals of the game for the Tartans were scored by the Westminster defense with the first happening in the first minute of the game. The Tartans fired off six shots in the first half with junior Ryan Casey (Marina del Rey, Calif. / Polytechnic) hitting the crossbar in the 34th minute.

The Tartans first shot on goal came off the foot of Casey in the 52nd minute. Three minutes later, Westminster's defense failed to clear it and another own goal was scored.

Casey finally broke through for the Tartans in the 58th minute scoring her third goal of the season off an assist from junior Tara Durstewitz (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge).

Junior Sydney Webber (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) had a shot stopped by Titan keeper Camille Holzschuh in the 64th minute before senior Kaily Bruch (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) scored in the 71st minute off an assist by Casey.

Sophomore Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) earned the win in goal for the Tartans, making one save in the first half. Junior Andrea Sipos (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) played the last 11 minutes to split the shutout with Botz.

The Tartans open University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, September 29 at New York University. The game is set to kick off at 1:30 p.m.
