Tartans Win Season Finale, 2-1, Against Case Western Reserve

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted Case Western Reserve University in the season finale for both programs on Saturday, November 3. The Tartans won by a 2-1 score to finish the year at 8-8-1 and 1-6 in the University Athletic Association (UAA).

Senior Kaily Bruch (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) scored the game's first goal in the 10th minute when her shot went past Lauren Metz to the side netting for Bruch's fifth goal of the season. Leading into the goal was a pass from sophomore Taylor Cammarata (Cary, N.C. / Green Hope). Bruch took two touches on the left side before her shot.

Cammarata fired a shot that hit the corner post minutes before Bruch's goal and senior Emily Tolmer (Bridgeville, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) forced Metz to punch a shot over the goal in the 21st minute.

As the Tartans played the ball around in the second half, Bruch put a pass across the goal for freshman Stephanie Ramsay (Lake Forest, Ill. / Loyola Academy) in the 53rd minute. Ramsay's one-timer was right in front of Metz who secured the shot for the save.

The Spartans equalized in the 63rd minute when Christina Hickson got around a defender on the left side and slipped a shot past junior Andrea Sipos (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) in net for the Tartans. Five minutes later, junior Tara Durstewitz (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) put the Tartans back on top with a shot from the right side over Metz. Sophomore Kristen Chong (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) earned the assist on the play.

The score held for the remainder of the match for the Tartan victory.
