Tartans Selected to NCAA Championships Field, Will Host First and Second Rounds

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team received an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship after finishing second in the University Athletic Association and have been selected to host the first and second rounds. The appearance in the NCAA tournament marks the ninth in ten years for the program which finished the regular season with a 12-2-2 overall mark. 

The Tartans started the year ranked 15th in the nation and opened their season with a close 2-0 loss to fifth-ranked William Smith College. The Tartans would go on to have a 14-game unbeaten streak with 12 wins combined with two ties, while having one of the toughest schedules in Division III.

The NCAA Selection Committee rewarded the Tartans for their season to date with hosting privileges for the first and second rounds. Joining Carnegie Mellon in a four-team bracket is Bryn Athyn College (13-2-1), Calvin University (17-0-1) and Nazareth College (8-4-7). The Tartans will open the tournament on Friday against Bryn Athyn, winners of the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while 10th-ranked Calvin will face Nazareth, winners of the Empire 8.

The Tartans have had success in the national tournament, advancing past the second round six times, including last year, while the 2019 team played in the national semifinal for the first time in program history. In eight years in the tournament, the Tartans have a 14-5-4 record with 14 shutouts. The Tartans have also hosted the opening weekend five times before, advancing through the four-team bracket each time, while holding an 11-1-2 record at home during the NCAA tournament.
