#3 Tartans and #19 NYU Play to 1-1 Draw

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) - The third-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team tied for the fifth straight game, this time on the road Sunday, October 29 against 19th-ranked New York University. The Tartans are now 11-0-5 overall and 1-0-5 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play while the Violets move to 11-2-3 and 2-2-3.

Inside the Box Score

  • After an empty first half of scoring, the Tartans scored their first goal off a corner kick taken by junior Ayana Curto. Junior Maria Askounis put in her fourth goal of the season in the 52nd minute of the game.
  • The Tartans held the lead until the 87th minute when the Violets were able to equalize on a goal by Hope Neal which was assisted by Gabriella Funk and Kelli Keady.
  • The Tartans took 12 shots in the game, with five on frame against the six shots taken by the Violets, three of which were on goal.
  • Senior Cecelia Dieterich, junior Emma Shirzad, sophomore Vivian Wang, and sophomore Jenna Hallbeck registered a shot on goal.


  • Askounis has scored in two of the three meetings against NYU.

  • This is the Tartans' first tie against the Violets since 2013, making the Tartans' record with them 7-1-1 since that time.
