Tartans Impress Once Again in Classroom During Fall Semester

The fall athletics season was highlighted by four team NCAA appearances, three University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, and a football bowl victory, but the Tartans also continued their dominance in the classroom. Academically, 137 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) with nearly 65 percent earning a 3.50 GPA or better.

Owens and O’Connor Selected to All-ECAC Team

Carnegie Mellon University graduate student Caitlynn Owens and sophomore Abby O’Connor earned regional recognition from the Eastern College Athletic Conference as the 2023 Division III Women’s Soccer All-ECAC Team was announced this week. Owens was named to the first team while O’Connor was named to the second team.

Department Honors Top Academic Athletes at Annual Celebration

In its 10th year celebrating academic and athletic achievement, the Carnegie Mellon Department of Athletics welcomed faculty and staff to the annual Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Celebration to honor 35 of the highest-achieving juniors and seniors across all colleges and athletics teams on Wednesday. The celebration is always held on Reading Day during finals week.

Owens Honored as All-American; Three Tartans Earn All-Region Honors

Graduate student Caitlynn Owens is a United Soccer Coaches All-American for the Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team. Owens was named to the second team, joining 49 other players recognized nationally for their play on the field this fall. Sophomore Jenna Hallbeck and senior Cecelia Dieterich join Owens with all-region recognition with Hallbeck also honored on the first team and Dieterich garnering second-team accolades in Region 7.

12 Tartan Soccer Players Earn Academic All-District Honors from College Sports Communicators

Twelve Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for Division III Men's and Women's Soccer, nominated by members of CSC, for the fall season. College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) rebranded to CSC in the summer of 2022.

Five Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer players have been honored on the 2023 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Soccer Team with sophomore Jenna Hallbeck and graduate student Caitlynn Owens earning first-team recognition. Junior Maria Askounis and sophomore Abby O'Connor were placed on the second team while senior Breana Valentovish received honorable mention accolades.

Tartans Come Up Short in NCAA Second Round at NYU

The Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team, ranked third in the latest national poll, fell in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament to 16th-ranked New York University on Saturday, November 11 by a 2-0 score. The Tartans finish the year with a 12-1-6 record and the program’s 10th NCAA tournament appearance.

Late Goal Lifts Tartans to 1-0 Win in NCAA First Round

November 10, 2023

The Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team opened the 2023 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament with a 1-0 victory against Washington and Lee University on Friday, November 10 at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, N.J. The win moves the Tartans’ record to 12-0-6 for the season while the Generals end the year with a 13-4-4 mark.

The third-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team received an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship after finishing the regular season with an 11-0-6 record. The appearance in the NCAA tournament marks the tenth in 11 years for the program.

The No. 2-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, for a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest against Emory University on Saturday, October 14. The Tartans scored two late goals to tie the Eagles, who are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll, by a 3-3 score. The Tartans are now 1-0-2 in the UAA and 10-0-2 overall. The Eagles are now 5-3-3 and 0-1-2 in the UAA.

The top-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team ends its 11-game win streak on Saturday with a 1-1 tie against 12th-ranked University of Rochester in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The Tartans record is now 11-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in UAA play following the day in which the Cardinal and Gray celebrated their seniors. The Yellowjackets are now 8-0-3, 0-0-2.
