Tartans Compete in FIU Sprint Invite

(MIAMI, Fla.) - Four days into the winter training trip for the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team the Tartans competed at the Florida International University Sprint Invite against a mix of teams from Division I, II, and III. The Tartans finished fourth out of 12 teams with 167.5 points.

HIghlights of the meet include the following finishes:

Junior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) was third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.28 and 10th in the 100-yard IM in 1:03.02.

Junior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) was fifth in the 400-yard freestyle in 4:13.75.

Sophomore Aileen Yu (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) was eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.31 with senior Hera Miao (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard South) just behind her in ninth place in 1:11.39. Yu also had the highest finish in the 50-yard breaststroke for the Tartans in 11th place in 32.51. Miao was once again just behind her in 32.57.

Sophomore Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) followed Nicklas-Morris in the 100-yard IM in 12th place in 1:03.28 with junior Teagan Goforth (Portland, Ore. / Tualatin) 13th in 1:03.38. All three were under their seed times for the event.

The 50-yard butterfly saw freshman Wendy Mo (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) place 11th in 27.50.

Junior Mary Day (Warren, N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy) was 11th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.65

Senior Cassidy Smith (Carlisle, Mass. / Concord-Carlisle Regional) finished 13th in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.78.

Sophomore Megan Christy (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) was 12th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.05 and 13th in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.50.

Once the Tartans return to campus for the second semester of classes they'll return to competition with a meet at Denison University on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00 p.m.
