(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team began the 2019 University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the University of Chicago. The Tartans are in fifth place after the first day of competition.

Junior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) had the best finish of the night for the Tartans when she touched fourth in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:05.33. Her time is a NCAA provisional qualifying time and surpasses the time of selection from last season.

Both times were season bests for the swimmers.

Both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay placed sixth while sophomore diver Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro) earned 427.45 points on the 3-meter diving board to place sixth.
