Tartans Hold Fifth Spot at UAA Championships

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team is in fifth place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships following action on day two. The meet is being hosted by the University of Chicago.

Junior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) turned in a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard IM when she touched in 4:26.91 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Junior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) touched second during the B Final of the event in a career-best 4:32.39.

Senior Cassidy Smith (Carlisle, Mass. / Concord-Carlisle Regional) swam in the championship final of the 100-yard breaststroke touching seventh in 1:05.85 while freshman Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central) placed 10th overall in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.00.

The top finisher in the 100-yard backstroke for the Tartans was junior Mary Day (Warren, N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy). Day finished 13th overall in 58.25.

The 800-yard freestyle relay finished fifth overall while the 200-yard medley relay was sixth.

The Tartans will continue action on Saturday for the final day of competition at the UAA Championships.
