Tartans Swim Well at Kenyon Relays

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team participated in the Kenyon College Relays on Saturday, October 19. The Tartans finished second to Kenyon with 84 points, while topping the College of Wooster, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Ohio Northern University.

Highlights from the meet include one first-place finish, five second-place finishes, and one third-place finish.

The first-place finish came in the 500-yard crescendo relay. Freshman Mathea Myhrvold (Oslo, Norway / Wakefield), freshman Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), senior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds), and freshman Clare Brown (Grantham, N.J. / Lebanon) won by nearly three seconds, touching in 4:41.99.

The second-place finishes came in the 200-yard breaststroke relay, 200-yard butterfly relay, 3x500-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard IM relay, and 200-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Eva Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris), junior Aileen Yu (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge), freshman Aidan Pinto (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Hills), and freshman Reilly McManus (Ridgefield, Conn. / Rye Country Day) touched in 2:09.72 in the breaststroke relay. Tseng, Pinto, sophomore Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central), and sophomore Wendy Mo (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) touched in 1:49.31 in the butterfly relay.

Swimming in the 3x500-yard freestyle relay was Clare Brown, senior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson), and junior Megan Christy (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny). The trio finished in 16:03.03. The 400-yard IM relay was completed by Tseng, Pinto, Chau, and Nicklas-Morris in 4:12.23. Freshman Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School), Hoedemaker, freshman Rachel Fuechtman (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central), and Myhrvold swam to a finish of 1:40.34 in the freestyle relay

The third-place finish happened in the 200-yard backstroke relay. Tseng, Wang, junior Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood), and senior Mary Day (Warren, N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy) finished in 1:49.32.

In diving, junior Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) won the 1-meter event with a score of 226.60 while freshman Emilia Schwallie (Weston, Mass. / Weston) was the top finisher on the 3-meter board, winning with a score of 248.60. Junior Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro) was second on the 3-meter board with a score of 245.10.

The Tartans will next swim against Case Western Reserve University at home on Saturday, October 26 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
