Tartans Win Third Straight Dual Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team won its third straight dual meet of the season by a 163-99 score against Washington and Lee University on Saturday, November 16.

Freshman Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) set a new pool record in the 100-yard backstroke and also won the 100-yard freestyle with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Tseng's winning time in the 100-yard backstroke was 57.33 while she finished the freestyle in 53.18. Her time of 58.07 in the butterfly was a season-best.

Freshman Clare Brown (Grantham, N.J. / Lebanon) won the 1,000-yard freestyle for the third time this season in a season-best time of 10:39.53. Brown also won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:56.76. Senior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) outtouched Clare in the 500-yard freestyle by .03 in a final time of 5:14.38 to win the event.

Senior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) won the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 2:08.18.

Freshman Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School) touched first in the 200-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 2:05.67.

Three divers earned their first NCAA regional qualifying scores with Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) scoring 278.25, freshman Emilia Schwallie (Weston, Mass. / Weston) scoring 265.50, and junior Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro) scoring 263.85 on the 1-meter after six dives. Schwallie earned the top score on the 3-meter board with a point total of 292.13.

The Tartans will next compete at the West Virginia University Invitational on November 21-23. The divers will host an invitational on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23.
