Tartans Win Five Events at Home Tri-Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted Calvin University and Denison University for a tri-meet on Saturday, January 18 a week after returning from the team's training trip in Miami, Florida. The Tartans defeated Calvin, 207-93, and fell to Denison, 172.50-127.50.

Top results for the Tartans came in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM.

Senior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 10:41.29.

Freshman Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) was the top finisher in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.67 and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.31. Her last race of the day was the 100-yard butterfly which she won with a time of 58.48.

Senior Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) won the 200-yard backstroke ahead of freshman teammate Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School) with a time of 2:07.12 to Wang's 2:07.41.

Senior Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) was the top finisher in the 200-yard IM to lead a trio of Tartans with a time of 2:09.50.

Junior Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) was third on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 235.00 while junior Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro) was third on the 3-meter board with a score of 248.25 to top the list of Tartan divers.

The Tartans will next dive at the Western Pennsylvania Invitational at the University of Pittsburgh on Friday, January 24 with swimming taking place on Saturday, January 25.
