Tartans Compete at Western PA Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team competed against Division I and II opponents at the Western PA Invite hosted by the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 25.

With the diving portion of the meet taking place on Friday, January 24, the Tartans had junior Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) finish ninth on the 3-meter board with a final score of 229.95 after six dives. Junior Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro) was just behind her in 10th place with a score of 222.95. Mianzo then finished 10th on the 1-meter board to lead the Tartans with a score of 236.70.

Junior Stefanie McMillan (Vancouver, Wash. / Skyview) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:43.66 in her first time swimming the event for the season. She later was sixth in the 500-yard freestyle after a season-best time of 5:14.34.

Sophomore Dani Castleberg (Santa Barbara, Calif. / Dos Pueblos) finished the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 1:56.98, placing eighth overall, to lead the Tartans in the event. She later placed ninth in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.18, another career-best time.

Senior Victoria Feng (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) was sixth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:08.68 while sophomore Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) was ninth in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 2:15.41.

Freshman Eva Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris) was sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke for the Tartans in a time of 2:29.07 while freshman Rachel Fuechtman (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central) knocked two seconds off her best time in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing 12th in 1:00.20 to lead the Tartans.

Senior Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) had a seventh-place finish in the 400-yard IM in 4:40.63 to close the individual races for the day.

The Tartans will next host Johns Hopkins University for senior day on Saturday, February 1 at 1:00 p.m.
