Tartans Compete with Johns Hopkins at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted Johns Hopkins University for a dual meet on Saturday, February 1. The Blue Jays won the meet, 154-108, with the Tartans winning three events.

Freshman Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) was the leader for the Tartans winning two events on the day. She out-touched Sydney Okubo from Johns Hopkins in the 200-yard backstroke by nearly a full second in 2:04.45 while she was just .05 seconds ahead of freshman teammate Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School) in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 56.84. Tseng also picked up a second-place individual finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.91, just .05 seconds off the winner.

Sophomore Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central) was the other winner for the Tartans when she was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 53.65. Hoedemaker also swam the 50-yard freestyle where she touched second in 24.92.

In her last home meet of her career, senior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:43.69 and third in the 400-yard IM in 4:40.04.

Freshman Eva Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris) had two second-place finishes for the Tartans in the breastroke, finishing the 100-yard race in 1:08.54 and the 200-yard race in 2:27.17.

In diving, junior Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro) finished first on the 1-meter board with a six-dive score of 269.70 while junior Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) was first on the 3-meter board with a score of 281.55.

The Tartans will next compete at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships hosted by the University of Chicago from February 12-15.
