Diving Record Set as Tartans Host Intersquad Meet for First Competition of 2020-21

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted an intersquad meet for its first competition of the year on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28.

Freshman Kelli Kuramoto (Los Altos, Calif. / Los Altos) set both the pool record and the school record on the 3-meter board in her first collegiate competition when she scored 495.00 points after 11 dives. Kuramoto finishd second to senior Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) on the 1-meter board when Mianzo tallied a career-best 429.82 points and Kuramoto tallied 404.40 points.

The 200-yard medley relay A team of sophomores Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), Reilly McManus (Ridgefield, Conn. / Rye Country Day), Miya Higuchi (Glendale, Calif. / Crescenta Valley), and Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) finished in 1:48.09.

The 400-yard medley relay A team of Tseng, senior Aileen Yu (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge), freshman Richelle Guice (Houston, Texas / William P. Clements), and Myhrvold touched first in 3:57.94.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of Tseng, senior Emma Graham (Mount Lebanon, Pa. / Mount Lebanon), sophomore Rachel Fuechtman (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central), and Myhrvold touched in 1:37.00

Myhrvold won both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle with times of 24.28 and 52.96, both not too far off from her career best marks set last season. On Sunday, Myhrvold topped her 50-yard freestyle time on Saturday with a race in 24.25 and her 100-yard freestyle time in 52.66.

Junior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) took first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.22 and finished Saturday's session with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.04. On Sunday, the junior won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 10:34.15.

Graham won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.02 on Saturday with freshman Zoe Jacobs (Sunnyvale, Calif. / King's Academy) winning the event on Sunday in 1:02.65.

McManus touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.20 on Saturday with freshman Maya McAuley (Novato, Calif. / Novato) touching in 1:07.42 on Sunday.

Tseng won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.62 on Saturday with senior Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) touching in 2:04.82 on Sunday. Chau also set a pool record in the 200-yard IM on Sunday when she touched in 2:08.09.

Yu won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.24 on Saturday with McManus touching in 2:29.01 on Sunday.

Higuchi finished the 100-yard butterfly in under a minute to win with a time of 59.43.

Sophomore Aidan Pinto (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Hills) swam the 400-yard IM to a career-best time of 4:32.36 for the win on Saturday and touched first in the 200-yard butterfly on Sunday in 2:11.79.

The team also swam the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay on Sunday. The group of Tseng, Fuechtman, Guice, and junior Wendy Mo (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) finished the 400 in 3:36.05 while Graham, Cassidy, sophomore Clare Brown (Grantham, N.J. / Lebanon and Myhrvold finished the 800 in 7:46.90.

The Tartans will compete against Kenyon on Friday, April 2 to close the season.
