Tartans Achieve Season Bests at Day 1 of Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team opened competition at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational on Thursday, November 18. The Tartans are competing against Division II West Chester University along with Division III schools, Hope College, John Carroll University and St. Norbert College.

Senior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) swam in the 500-yard freestyle A-Final after achieving a season-best time of 5:02.72 in the preliminaries. Her finals time of 5:06.23 placed her fifth overall.

Freshman Emma Kulbida (Broomfield, Colo. / Stargate Charter) was the top Tartan in the 200-yard IM, as she finished 12th overall in a season-best 2:09.19. Junior Aidan Pinto (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Hills) also had a season-best time in the event as she finished 14th in 2:10.35.

Juniors Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) and Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) touched in succession in the 50-yard freestyle to finish 11th and 12th respectively in times of 24.18 and 24.28. Both are season-best times.

There were two relays on day one of the meet with the 200-yard freesytle relay finishing fifth in 1:36.71 and the 400-yard medley relay taking sixth place in 3:54.54.

Competition will resume at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning with another preliminaries session.
