Tartan Women Sit Third at Kenyon Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team is in third place after the second day of competition at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational.

The top 200-yard medley relay team for the Tartans was junior Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), freshman Emma Kulbida (Broomfield, Colo. / Stargate Charter), junior Miya Higuchi (Glendale, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) and senior Emma Graham () who touched fourth in 1:46.68. A second relay group for the Tartans finished fifth in 1:46.91.

Freshman Reece Whatmore (Sarasota, Fla. / The Out-of-Door Academy) swam to a ninth-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a season-best time of 4:36.49.

Two Tartans placed in the top 10 of the 100-yard butterfly with freshman Carolann Kimock (Old Bridge, N.J. / Saint John Vianney) finishing ninth in 58.15 and freshman Molly Kinstle (Easthampton, Mass. / Williston Northampton) finishing 10th in 58.26. Both recorded season-best times in the prelims in 57.91 and 58.13, respectively.

Freshman Emma Hoffman (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) earned a spot in the A-Final of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.10 and finished the race in 1:57.85 to place ninth.

Kulbida was the top Tartan in the 100-yard breaststroke with an eighth-place finish in 1:06.57 after a season-best time of 1:05.86 in the prelims. Junior Eva Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris) led six Tartans in the B-Final by winning the heat in 1:06.68.

Tseng had her best swim of the season in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.15 to place second while junior Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School) placed fourth in a season-best time of 56.26. Both times meet the NCAA B Cut standard.

The 800-yard freestyle relay of Tseng, Hoffman, freshman Katie Rock (Edgewater, N.J. / Bergen County Technical) and senior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) closed the meet with a fourth-place finish in a time of 7:45.52.

Competition resumes Saturday morning with prelims at 10:30 a.m. for the final day of events.
