Two Record Qualifying Times on Second Day of UAA Championships

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team continued action at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships Friday and are in fifth place with 590 points with one more day to go.

The 200-yard medley relay of junior Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School), sophomore Maya McAuley (Novato, Calif. / Novato), junior Miya Higuchi (Glendale, Calif. / Crescenta Valley), and junior Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) placed fourth in 1:45.78. Wang's 50-yard backstroke time to lead off the relay is second best in CMU history at 26.47.

Junior Aidan Pinto (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Hills) finished the 400-yard IM in 13th place after a season-best swim in 4:32.91 before freshman Molly Kinstle (Easthampton, Mass. / Williston Northampton) was second in the C Final of the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 57.74.

Senior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) led the Tartans in the 200-yard freestyle with a 16th-place finish in 1:55.19.

Freshman Emma Kulbida won the B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.57 to lead the Tartans in the event.

Wang earned All-UAA recognition in the 100-yard backstroke as she placed third with an NCAA qualifying time and school-record time of 55.74. Junior Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) and freshman Krystal Xiao-Rao (San Francisco, Calif. / St. Ignatius College Preparatory) won the B Final and C Final of the 100-yard backstroke. Tseng's time of 56.54 met the qualifying standard while Xiao-Rao recorded her second personal-best time of the night in 57.71.

The 800-yard freestyle relay closed out the evening session with a fifth-place showing by Tseng, Cassidy, freshman Katie Rock, and Myhrvold in 7:41.22.

The final day of competition kicks off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with finals set for 5:30 p.m. at Emory University.
