Tartans Set Two School Records on Opening Night of Kenyon Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team began the Kenyon College Invitational on Thursday, November 17 with multiple NCAA provisional qualifying times and school records. The Tartans are in third place with 342 team points. Kenyon leads the meet with 676.5 points.

Top Performances

  • The 200-yard freestyle relay finished fifth in a time of 1:36.02 behind the swims from senior Tiffany Tseng, freshman Nia Bowrin, freshman Savannah Xu, and freshman Grace Malinger. The time is a season-best for the team.
  • Freshman Annie Wang knocked nearly six seconds off her team-best time in the 500-yard freestyle to place 10th in 5:06.46.
  • Xu was Tartan superior in the 200-yard IM, setting a new school record in the finals with a time of 2:02.89 which placed her second. She already hit the NCAA provisional qualifying time this season but made it better by nearly three seconds.
  • Freshman Audrey Lambert also swam in the 200-yard IM finals and finished 10th in a season-best time of 2:08.27.
  • Malinger followed Xu with a school-record performance in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 23.69 placed her eighth in the finals.
  • The 400-yard medley relay placed fourth to close the night with a time of 3:50.96. It was the first time the Tartans swam the event this year with this top-time coming from Xu, Lambert, Malinger, and freshman Eliana Szabo. The time is also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Notes

  • Xu's 200-yard IM school record topped that of Emma Nicklas-Morris set in 2017.
  • Malinger's 50-yard freestyle school record topped that of Breanna Stillo set in 2013.

  • The Tartans will continue the competition at Kenyon on Friday, November 18 with preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
