Two Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players finished the year with All-America recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The individuals were announced Wednesday when the organization released the 2013 teams. Junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) earned the honor for the second time for her play in singles competition and paired with Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) to earn the honor in doubles competition.

Junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team saw her season come to an end Friday, May 24, as the junior fell in the quarterfinals of singles play at the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. This year's championships are being held at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

A week after being named the Atlantic South Region Arthur Ashe Jr. for Leadership and Sportsmanship Honoree by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) received national recognition late Wednesday night. Cecil was awarded the NCAA Division III national ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. The junior also was the recipient of the Elite 89 Award for the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship.

Carnegie Mellon University junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) and sophomore Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) competed at the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships Thursday, May 23. Cecil competed in singles play and teamed with Pratt in doubles. It was the first trip to the NCAA Championships for both women's tennis players, as this year's championships are being held at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Freshman Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) won 6-4, 6-4 to lead the eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 victory over the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, May 11. With the team score tied 4-4, Hamstra pulled out the straight-set victory to propel the Tartans to the third round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships.

The win moves the Tartans’ dual-match record to 13-7, as the Pacers end their season at 12-6. Carnegie Mellon is hosting the three-day NCAA Regional.

The Tartans improve to 12-6 on the year while the Bears fall to 14-6.
