Women’s Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team; Nine Named Scholar Athletes

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was honored for the seventh straight season and 14th time in the last 15 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, nine players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

Six Carnegie Mellon University tennis players were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as 2016 Division III All-Americans. Both the men’s and women’s programs had three players earn the national distinction for their play on the hardcourt in 2015-2016.

Senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis program received the NCAA Division III Most Improved Player award by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday, May 25. Tsu was joined by two of her teammates who were honored with Atlantic South Region accolades; senior Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) was awarded the Arthur Ashe Jr. for Leadership and Sportsmanship award and freshman Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) was named Rookie of the Year for the region.

Carnegie Mellon University freshman Marina Selenica (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day School) of the women’s tennis team found a spot on the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team. Selenica was selected to the second-team at No. 6 singles following her performance at the Association Championship this past weekend.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished fourth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship after falling, 6-3, to the University of Chicago in the third-place match on Sunday, April 24. The Tartans, ranked ninth in the nation are now 15-7 for the season, while the Maroons, ranked 16th in the nation are 11-5.

The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team met 12th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship semifinal on Saturday, April 23 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The Bears pulled out a 6-3 win to advance to the championship final while the Tartans will play for third place on Sunday.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team began the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with a 8-1 win against No. 30 Brandeis University on Friday, April 22. The Tartans, ranked ninth nationally and the second seed for the tournament, are now 15-5 for the season.

Carnegie Mellon University senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance this past weekend in helping the 11th-ranked Tartans to a pair of road victories over nationally ranked opponents. The Tartans defeated #12 Johns Hopkins University 8-1 on Saturday before topping #18 University of Mary Washington 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team won its fifth straight contest and fifth match against a nationally ranked opponent on Sunday, April 10 when it faced 18th-ranked University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Viriginia. The 11th-ranked Tartans won the match 5-4 to move to 14-5 on the year.

The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled to regional rival Johns Hopkins University for a Saturday match. The Tartans defeated the 12th-ranked Blue Jays 8-1 after the match was moved indoors due to weather.

The Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team, ranked 11th nationally, hosted the Shorewomen of Washington College on Friday, April 1. The Tartans defeated the Shorewomen 9-0. The win moves Carnegie Mellon’s dual match record to 13-5 while Washington is now 5-2.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Champion Westminster College on Monday, March 21 and defeated the Titans by a 9-0 score. The Tartans, ranked 11th in the nation, are now 10-5 for the season while the Titans drop to 10-4.
