Strome and Taylor Finish Runner Up at ITA Cup

(ROME, Ga.) - Sophomore Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team played in ITA Cup Division III Doubles National Championship match on Saturday and dropped a hard battle to Caroline Cox and Catherine Allen of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The championships were held at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

The Tartan tandem won the first set 6-4 before dropping sets two and three by the identical scores. It marked the third time in program history that a doubles team has played in the national final match of doubles play. Amy Staloch and Mona Iyer played in the finals in 2004 while Lauren Chen and Courtney Chin made an appearance in 2011.

In the fifth-place singles match, Taylor was victorious over Risa Fukushige of Skidmore College winning by the scores of 6-3, 6-1.

Strome and Taylor will next be in action in February when dual match play resumes.
