#11 Tartans Advance to Fifth-Place Match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 7-2 win Over Sewanee

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team advanced to the fifth-place match at the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 7-2 win over Sewanee on Saturday afternoon. The Tartans are now 5-2 overall while the Tigers move to 3-3.

The Tartans took a 2-1 lead following doubles play and then took the first three points of singles to seal the win on Saturday.

The junior tandem of Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) made the score 1-0 with an 8-4 win at second doubles. The Tigers then won at first doubles before senior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) teamed with freshman Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) won 8-6 at third doubles.

Carnegie Mellon's first point in singles play came when Rao was victorious 6-3, 6-0 in the third spot. Sophomore Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) then won 6-2, 6-1 at sixth singles and then freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) won a three-set match 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to seal the Tartans' fifth victory of the season.

The Tartans will now play 13th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis in the fifth-place match at 8:00 am CT.
