#11 Tartans Outlasted by #1 Emory in UAA Semifinals

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team ran into topped ranked Emory University in the semifinals of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The Eagles won 5-1 over the Tartans, as the Cardinal and Gray move to 16-7 overall. The Tartans will face eighth-ranked Brandeis University on Saturday in the third-place match.

In doubles play, the Tartans third team of senior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) and freshman Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) record the lone doubles point for Carnegie Mellon with an 8-2 win.

When play was stopped after reaching decision, Wu won her first set at fourth singles and was leading 4-0 in the second, while junior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) was up 2-1 in the third set at three singles and freshman Beata Liberchuk (Edgewater, N.J. / Dwight-Englewood) dropped set one and was leading 5-2 in the sixth spot.

The match with Brandeis will take place Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
