  • Tennis Programs Awarded ITA Regional Recognition

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s and women's tennis programs received regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The women’s team earned the ITA Community Service Award for the Atlantic South while the men’s program received recognition with the ITA Community Service Honorable Mention Award. Additionally, senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year for the Atlantic South.

    Senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern), senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team have been selected as 2020 Division III Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Americans.

    At the Division III level of NCAA athletics, it’s rare for an athlete to advance to play professionally. It can be even rarer to see an athlete advance to play on the international stage. Yet, women’s tennis player and Carnegie Mellon University 2018 graduate Katie Lai was able to do both through her play in the 2020 Fed Cup, commonly referred to as ‘The World Cup of Tennis’ in February.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fifth nationally, had its win streak snapped at six when it fell to third-ranked Emory University, 7-2, on Tuesday. The Tartans are now 15-3 overall while the Eagles move to 5-3.
  • Rao Honored by UAA

    Carnegie Mellon University senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance during the Tartans spring trip to Orlando, Florida, during the week of March 2 through March 8. She was perfect through the five matches during the week with a mark of 3-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles play.
  • #5 Tartans Run Win Total to 15 with a Pair of Victories Sunday

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fifth nationally, continued its winning ways on Sunday with a 9-0 victory over McMurry University and a 7-2 win over 13th-ranked Kenyon College. The two wins run the Tartans streak to six straight and are now 15-2 overall.

    The fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened its spring trip with a 6-1 win over NAIA Cardinal Stritch University in Orlando, Florida. The win moves the Tartans record to 11-2 while Cardinal Stritch is now 0-5.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked seventh nationally, placed third at the 2020 ITA National Team Indoor Championship after defeating fifth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer, 5-3, Sunday afternoon. This year's championship played at the Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky and hosted by Centre College. The win moves the Tartans overall record to 10-2 while the Sagehen are now 4-2.
  • #7 Tartans Tripped Up by #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at ITA National Tournament

    The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team stumbled to second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the championship semifinal of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday afternoon in Nicholasville, Kentucky. CMS downed the Tartans 9-0 moving the Tartans record to 9-2 for the season. The three-day event is being played at the Top Seed Tennis Club and hosted by Centre College.
  • #7 Tartans Open ITA National Team Indoor Championship With 6-3 Win Over #8 Chicago

    The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team battled University Athletic Association counterpart and eighth-ranked University of Chicago in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday and won 6-3. This year's championships are being played in Nicholasville, Kentucky at the Top Seed Tennis Club and hosted by Centre College. Carnegie Mellon is now 9-1 overall while the Maroons lose their first of the season and are now 6-1.
  • #7 Tartans Down UAA Foe #29 Case Western Reserve 8-1

    For the second time this season, the seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team defeated 29th-ranked Case Western Reserve University. This time, the Tartans defeated the Spartans 8-1 at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, after winning 5-0 in October on Carnegie Mellon's outdoor courts. The win improves the Tartans record to 8-1 while the Spartans move to 3-3.

    The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team continued its indoor season with an 8-1 win against 29th-ranked Hope College Saturday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania. The Tartans are now 5-1 for the season while the Flying Dutch move to 1-1.

    The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened the indoor season with a 8-1 win against Division II Slippery Rock University on Friday night at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania. The Tartans are now 4-1 for the season.
  • Banner Fall for Student-Athletes in the Classroom

    It was a memorable fall for the Carnegie Mellon Athletics Program, as five of six fall teams advanced to postseason play, the basketball and swimming and diving teams got off to great starts, and the women’s golf team earned a number one national ranking. Four teams competed in the NCAA postseason, including the women’s soccer team’s run to the national semifinals, and the Tartans once again finished the fall 16th in the Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings. On top of the competitive success, 104 student-athletes achieved 4.0 grade-point averages (GPA) and more than 60 percent of the student-athletes earned a 3.50 GPA or better.
