14 Carnegie Mellon Athletes Named to the 12th Annual UAA Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University had 14 student-athletes named to the 12th Annual University Athletic Association (UAA) Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced be the league’s office on Wednesday. The 14 Tartans, three men’s cross country, two football, men’s golf, women’s golf, softball, men’s tennis and one women’s tennis, received the prestigious honor along with 142 other student-athletes representing all eight UAA member institutions.
ITA Honors Women’s Tennis Team as All-Academic Team; Nine Named Scholar Athletes

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was honored for the 11th straight season and 18th time in the last 19 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, nine players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.
Tennis Programs Awarded ITA Regional Recognition

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s and women's tennis programs received regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The women’s team earned the ITA Community Service Award for the Atlantic South while the men’s program received recognition with the ITA Community Service Honorable Mention Award. Additionally, senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year for the Atlantic South.
Ollis, Rao, Taylor Selected to ITA All-American Team

Senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern), senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team have been selected as 2020 Division III Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Americans.

At the Division III level of NCAA athletics, it’s rare for an athlete to advance to play professionally. It can be even rarer to see an athlete advance to play on the international stage. Yet, women’s tennis player and Carnegie Mellon University 2018 graduate Katie Lai was able to do both through her play in the 2020 Fed Cup, commonly referred to as ‘The World Cup of Tennis’ in February.

#5 Tartans' Win Streak Snapped at Six by #3 Emory

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fifth nationally, had its win streak snapped at six when it fell to third-ranked Emory University, 7-2, on Tuesday. The Tartans are now 15-3 overall while the Eagles move to 5-3.
Rao Honored by UAA

Carnegie Mellon University senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance during the Tartans spring trip to Orlando, Florida, during the week of March 2 through March 8. She was perfect through the five matches during the week with a mark of 3-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles play.
