Taylor, Ollis Receive UAA Athlete of the Week Honor

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) and senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week for earning championship titles at the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament.

Taylor repeated as both the singles and doubles champion while Ollis paired with Taylor to win her first ITA Southeast title. Taylor breezed through the singles bracket and won the championship with a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Claire Coleman from the University of Mary Washington. The toughest doubles match for Ollis and Taylor came against teammates, Lindy Cornwall and Bin Zheng, in the finals. Ollis and Taylor prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3).

Both Taylor and Ollis continued play in the week with two matches against Division I opponents where the team split, defeating the University of Niagara 7-0 and falling to the University of Buffalo 4-3. The duo won at first doubles against Niagara and Taylor continued her unbeaten singles season with two wins at first singles.

Next up is a pair of matches against Christopher Newport University and Case Western Reserve University at home on Saturday, October 5 before the two travel to Rome, Georgia, for the ITA National Tournament on October 17-20.
