Tartans Open Indoor Season with 8-1 Win Against Slippery Rock

(WEXFORD, Pa.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened the indoor season with a 8-1 win against Division II Slippery Rock University on Friday night at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania. The Tartans are now 4-1 for the season.

Doubles play ended with a sweep by the Tartans with the number one pair of senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) finishing first with an 8-1 victory.

Senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) was the first to finished singles play and gave the Tartans a 4-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 straight set win at second singles against senior Viola Lugmayr.

The match clinching point was won by freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) at third singles. Zheng also won in straight sets by a 6-2, 6-2 score against sophomore Lois Page.

The Tartans will next compete against 29th-ranked Hope College on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club.
