#7 Tartans Takedown #29 Hope 8-1

(WEXFORD, Pa.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team continued its indoor season with an 8-1 win against 29th-ranked Hope College Saturday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania. The Tartans are now 5-1 for the season while the Flying Dutch move to 1-1.

For the fifth time this season, the Tartans swept doubles play with the tandem of junior Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and sophomore Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) taking the first point by the score of 8-2 at the third spot. The second point was won by the Cardinal and Gray's topped duo of senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School), as they won 8-7 (4) before sophomore Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) completed the sweep with an 8-7 (3) win at second doubles.

Taylor won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles to make the score 4-0. Zheng then recorded the match clinching point with a 6-1, 7-5 win at third singles. Also collecting wins in singles play for the Tartans were Cornwall, sophomore Victoria Chang (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) and freshman Madeline Fidel (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton North).

The Tartans will be back on the court Saturday, February 15 with a 3:00 pm match against 26th-ranked Denison University at the Oxford Athletic Club.
