#5 Tartans Open Spring Trip with 6-1 Win Over Cardinal Stritch

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - The fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened its spring trip with a 6-1 win over NAIA Cardinal Stritch University in Orlando, Florida. The win moves the Tartans record to 11-2 while Cardinal Stritch is now 0-5.

The Tartans claimed the lone point in doubles play with wins at the first and second spots. The duo of senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) won 6-3 at first doubles while senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and sophomore Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) won 6-4 in the second spot.

Sophomore Beata Liberchuk (Edgewater, N.J. / Dwight-Englewood) won 6-3, 6-3 at sixth singles following a Cardinal Stritch win at five which tied the score at 2-2. Carnegie Mellon the collected wins at third and fourth singles to seal the win. Freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) won 6-4, 6-1 at third singles with Cornwell winning 6-4, 6-2 at four.

The Tartans will play two matches against Division II opponents on Saturday with the first University of Mary at 11:30 a.m. followed by a 6:30 p.m. contest with University of Sioux Falls.
