Tartans Win Four Three-Set Matches to Defeat Division II Slippery Rock

(WEXFORD, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team moved to 2-0 with a 4-3 thriller over Division II Slippery Rock University on Sunday. The event was held at the indoor courts at Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania, while playing by Division II game scoring.

The Tartans second doubles tandem of senior Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and junior Ola Wojciak (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) recorded an 8-5 win, but the Rock claimed the single doubles point after collecting wins at the first and third spots.

The Tartans then found themselves down 3-1 after recording a team point with a three-set, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0, win by freshman Abigail Khieu (Potomac, Md. / Walt Whitman) at sixth singles. The three-set victory was the first of four for the Tartans in the match.

Junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and Wojciak knotted the score at 3-3 with wins at second and fourth singles, respectively. Cornwall won 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 while Wojciak won 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Sophomore Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) then sealed the Tartans win with a 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-2 win at fifth singles.

The Tartans return to the courts next weekend March 12 and 13 with matches against Grove City College and Franciscan University.
