#5 Tartans Run Streak to Six Straight with 5-2 Win at Division II IUP

Cornwall seals the match with a win at the top spot

(INDIANA, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fifth in Division III, traveled to Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sunday. The Tartans won 5-2 while playing by Division II game scoring and remain unbeaten at 6-0.

The Tartans second doubles duo of sophomore Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) and freshman Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) tallied a 6-2 win after IUP claimed a win at the top spot. The Tartans third doubles tandem of senior Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and freshman Victoria Tankova (Toronto, Ontario / Lorne Park Secondary School) fought back from a 5-3 deficit to earn the single doubles point for the Tartans with a 7-5 win.

Qiang earned the Tartans first point in singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win at five followed by a straight set win from Abdelmoneum at four by the scores of 6-4, 7-6(5). Junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) clinched the win for the Tartans, as she won a three-set match at the top spot. Cornwall dropped the first set 4-6 before winning 6-3, 6-4 in sets two and three, respectively.

Carnegie Mellon will host The College of Wooster on Saturday, March 27.
