(TEMPE, Ariz.) – Junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and sophomore Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team earned 2021 Division III Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America status when the association released the winners along with the final team and individual rankings this month. The honor marks the first for both athletes, as Cornwall earns the distinction at both singles and doubles.

For 2021, the All-America title is given to student-athletes that are a top eight seed in the NCAA singles tournament, win one round at the NCAA singles tournament, or finish in the Top 20 in the final Oracle ITA Rankings. The All-American status is also awarded to doubles teams that are a top four seed in the NCAA doubles tournament, win one round at the NCAA doubles tournament, or finish in the Top 10 in the final Oracle ITA Rankings.

Cornwall is one of 24 singles players on the 2021 list after finishing the season with an 11-4 record and a national ranking of 13. She competed in the NCAA singles tournament for the first time, falling to Grace Riermann of Bethel University, 6-4, 6-1, after battling through an injury that forced her to withdraw from her singles position in the NCAA tournament against North Carolina Wesleyan.

Cornwall paired with Zheng for a 12-4 record in doubles action and are one of 12 pairs honored with All-America recognition. The duo defeated the number two seed of Maggie Dorr and Caroline Garrido of Tufts in the round of 16 of the NCAA doubles tournament by a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 score before falling in the quarterfinals. Cornwall and Zheng finished as the fourth-ranked pair nationally.

The team finished the season with a 13-3 record and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the 12th time in program history while earning a national ranking of 13. Other individual rankings include Zheng at 39 nationally in singles.

In the Atlantic South Region, the Tartans finished ranked fifth with Cornwall ranked fifth individually, Zheng 11th, and freshman Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) ranked 16th. Cornwall and Zheng were given a number three ranking in doubles play for the region.
