Tartans Top DI Saint Francis 4-3

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team moved to 2-1 with a 4-3 victory against Division I Saint Francis University on Saturday, February 5 at Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania.

The Tartans took the doubles point after sweeping the three matches. Sophomore Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) and junior Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) partnered for a win at second doubles, 8-5, ahead of senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) winning 8-5 at first doubles.

Freshman Ava Givone (Delray Beach, Fla. / Oxbridge Academy) and freshman Sarah Yang (Alpharetta, Ga. / Northview) put the Tartans ahead 3-0 with wins at second and third singles. Givone won 6-2, 6-2 with Yang winning 6-3, 6-3. Both are on a four match winning streak in singles play.

Saint Francis made it 3-2 with a pair of victories at fifth and sixth singles ahead of Cornwall putting the match away at first singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win.

The Tartans will next face the College of Wooster on Sunday, February 13 at 8:00 a.m.
