Tartans Fall to CMS in ITA Women's National Team Indoor Championship Opening Round

(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened the 2022 Division III ITA Women's National Team Indoor Championship on Friday, March 4 at Centre College in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Tartans were pitted against fourth-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the first round, falling to the Athenas 9-0.

CMS was able to sweep through doubles play but not before the Tartans' number one pair of senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) pushed their match to 7-7 before the eventual loss of 8-7 (7-5).

In singles play, Cornwall dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match at third singles while freshman Sarah Yang (Alpharetta, Ga. / Northview) fell 6-3, 6-4 at first singles.

The Tartans will now play Centre at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5 in the consolation round.
